About
Nick Mulvey
London & Ibiza based singer songwriter Nick Mulvey has always been immersed in the world of music. Before launching his solo career in 2012, Nick gathered a treasure trove of musical experiences. He studied music and art in Havana, Cuba, and was an integral part of the Mercury Award-nominated Portico Quartet.
Nick's debut album, "First Mind" was a remarkable debut that left a lasting impression on all who listened. Since then, he has continued to create music and tour whenever possible, balancing his roles as a devoted dad and a beloved musician.
Nick’s journey with music began with the piano and drums. However, his musical path took a significant turn when he picked up a guitar in Southern Spain at 18. A year later, he moved to Cuba, and eventually returned to the U.K. to study ethnomusicology at the School of Oriental and African Studies. There, he dived deep into various musical styles, with a special focus on West and Central African music.
In 2005, during his studies, Nick met his future bandmates from Portico Quartet and began playing the Hang with them. Their collaboration led to a Mercury Prize nomination in 2008, 150 shows worldwide, and a deal with Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records. By 2011, Nick felt it was time to return to his first love, the guitar, and pursue his solo aspirations.
With a rich blend of musical genres at his disposal, Nick crafted a sound that was both striking and unique. Drawing inspiration from legends like Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, and Tom Waits, and blending in African influences, particularly from guitarist Kawele, he created something truly special.
Nick’s debut album, "First Mind," released in 2014, introduced an artist who defied convention and expectations. The album was a beautiful mix of leftfield rhythms and natural, extraordinary guitar work. Each song was a unique piece of art, showcasing Nick’s incredible talent and vision. His live performances brought these songs to life, supported by a group of equally talented musicians who formed his band. "First Mind" was a remarkable debut that left a lasting impression on all who listened. Since then, he has continued to create music and tour whenever possible, balancing his roles as a devoted dad and a beloved musician.
